ROCHESTER, Minn. (KVRR/KFGO) – Former state senator Ray Holmberg is now in prison. He’s been transferred to the Federal Medical Center in Rochester, Minnesota.

Holmberg had been in the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River, Minnesota prior to and following his sentencing in U.S District Court in Fargo in late March when he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for traveling to Europe more than a dozen times to have sex with underage boys.

Judge Daniel Hovland had recommended that Holmberg serve his time in Rochester, but the decision was left to the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FOB).

North Dakota U.S. Marshal Dallas Carlson says the FOB handled the transport.

Holmberg is 81 and was a senator representing Grand Forks for 45 years.
