The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died after drowning in Lake Isabella as 24-year-old Gustavo Duarte of Panorama City.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at around 6:20 p.m., deputies were called to the Old Isabella Road Recreation Site for a report of a possible drowning in Lake Isabella.

KCSO said deputies received information that a man had been swimming in the lake without a flotation device and went missing. Search and Rescue teams conducted an extensive search of the area for several hours but were unable to locate the person before nightfall forced the suspension of search operations.
