President Donald Trump has nominated Jeff Goettman, Gov. Glenn Youngkin's former chief of staff , to serve as a deputy U.S. trade representative.
In the post, which requires U.S. Senate confirmation, Goettman's areas of responsibility would include Africa, the Western Hemisphere, Europe, the Middle East, environment, labor and industrial competitiveness.
During the first Trump administration Goettman served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Export-Import Bank of the United States , which helps finance U.S. international trade.
In 2019, he served as a counselor for domestic finance in the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In that job, he helped launch the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act’s $80 billion program for airlines.
