The chairman of Reform UK has quit alongside a fellow member of his Kent Doge team who is also leaving the party.

Zia Yusuf’s decision follows a row with the party’s newest MP over a “dumb” question she asked the Prime Minister concerning a burka ban.

Announcing his resignation this afternoon, Mr Yusuf said trying to work to get the party elected to government is not a “good use of my time”.

His full statement said: “11 months ago, I became chairman of Reform.

“I’ve worked full time as a volunteer to take the party from 14 to 30%, quadrupled its membership and delivered historic electoral results.

“I no longer believe working to get a Reform government elected is a good use of my time, and hereby resign the office.”
