AUSTIN (KXAN) -- On Thursday morning, the city of Florence issued a boil water notice for the city due to a major water leak. The city did not say for how long the notice would be in effect.
Due to the water leak, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required all City of Florence Public Water Systems customers to boil water before use.
The TCEQ said when under a boil water notice, "Water for drinking or other human consumption should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes."
Whenever a boil water notice is issued, it indicates the water in the system may be unsafe for consumption or pose a health risk, according to TCEQ's website.
