The San Antonio Police Department on Thursday walked back its insistence that there was “no evidence” to suggest King of the Hill actor Jonathan Joss ‘ killing was motivated by homophobia.
Police Chief Bill McManus said today in a news conference that it had been “way, way, way premature” for the department to issue a statement earlier this week dispelling the idea that the killing was a hate crime , after Joss’ husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales detailed the events that preceded the shooting, saying it was the result of repeated and “openly homophobic” harassment.
“We understand that many in the LGBTQ+ community are feeling anxious and concerned. A lot of it has to do with that premature statement that we released, and again, I own that. We shouldn’t have done it,” McManus sa
