WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - After a domestic incident, the Jefferson County Victims Assistance Center sends in trained professionals to assess what’s next.

That effort is being supported by a recent award of $375,000 from the state.

The victim assistance center’s team will be there to go to a domestic violence scene with police and learn more from the victims, as a way to protect them further.

“The assessment has questions ranging from “Has your partner ever threatened you with a weapon? Has your partner ever choked or strangled you? Is your partner unemployed? The more yesses you give, the more dangerous that situation is,” said Amy Quonce.

As part of the same grant money, Jefferson County Probation will see $200,000 to help its effort against domestic violence.
