BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Animal Care is grappling with an overwhelming influx of cats and dogs, leading the shelter to slash adoption fees for felines to $20 throughout June.

The shelter is experiencing its typical summer surge, when animals give birth to litters and owners find themselves unable to care for the increased numbers.

"Every summer, we see a really high influx of animals entering the shelter. This is usually the time when animals are having their litters, and a lot of times that goes back to owners not being responsible and getting their pets fixed," said Viviana Lopez, adoption and marketing coordinator at Beaumont Animal Care.
