THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — A Lewis County man was killed during a dog training exercise in Thurston County Tuesday.

After conducting interviews, examining the scene and gathering evidence, detectives learned a group had been conducting dog training exercises, which included filming training videos involving gunfire, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO).

During the exercises, one of the handlers fired a gun with live ammunition, which hit a participant in the filming, a man in his 20s.

Fire department medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
