COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. ( WECT /Gray News) – First responders in Southeastern North Carolina used Narcan to save a dog who was found unresponsive from a drug overdose.
Deputies with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office were called to respond to a home in Whiteville where they found a puppy and her owner unresponsive.
“Normally when we go in residences, dogs are alert, oriented, and they’re barking at us, stuff like that,” responding Detective Shay Rogers said.
Authorities believed the dog ingested whatever drug was present in the home.
First responders administered Narcan to the puppy and her owner, saving both their lives.
“It was kind of a group effort,” Rogers said.
Whiteville Rescue provided additional care, taking both the man and the puppy, now named Girlie, to the hospital.
