CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Smoke form the Canadian wildfires caused the state Department of Environmental Protection to issue an air quality advisory Thursday afternoon.
The advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. for most of West Virginia.
DEP Assistant Director of Air Monitoring, Laboratory & Air Toxics Renu Chakrabarty said they’ve been seeing air quality readings in the yellow range with the possibility of going to orange range by the end of the day.
“Our ground monitors seeing some elevated readings. We have not gone over the health standards but we are keeping an eye on it,” Chakrabarty told MetroNews.
There may be some areas in the orange range.
“We just wanted to make folks aware so they can keep an eye on that,” Chakrabarty said.
