TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The state has filed a notice of intent to seek the death penalty against the suspected Florida State campus shooter , Phoenix Ikner, according to court documents.

WCTV obtained the court records Thursday.

This news comes the same day a nontraditional plea was submitted for the 20-year-old suspect, who court records show chose to “ stand mute ,” and also waived his arraignment and right to a speedy trial.

According to Florida’s Rules of Criminal Procedure, “if a defendant stands mute, or pleads evasively, a plea of not guilty shall be entered.”
