MINGO JUNCTION, OH — A major environmental cleanup is set to begin at the JSW Steel facility in Jefferson County. The $2.1 million project, led by the Jefferson County Port Authority, will remove 6,200 feet of abandoned coke oven gas line and hazardous residues left behind at the site.
Crews will remove the unused piping, vacuum out remaining contaminants, conduct soil testing, and excavate areas around former tank and drip leg locations. The effort is aimed at preparing the site for future industrial growth connected to steel production.
The funding comes from the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program, which supports cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated industrial properties across the state.
