(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - School is out for the summer and for teenage drivers, that is not exactly some good news.

According to AAA, more than 13,000 people were killed in a crash involving a teenage driver between 2019 and 2023.

The agency said that over 30% of those deaths happened between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

That's because teenagers are out of school and logging in more hours of unsupervised driving time.

Parents are encouraged to educate their teens on using the do not disturb feature on their phones to ease distracted driving.
