Students at Stanford University have ended what they say is the longest university hunger strike in solidarity with Palestine in U.S. history.

More than three dozen students, staff and alumni have participated in the 24-day effort, which was launched in May in solidarity with Palestinians at risk of starving in Gaza due to Israel’s monthslong blockade of aid to the region.

The strike began after similar movements took root across California State University campuses in the Bay Area, calling for university leaders to meet protesters’ demands to divest from companies they say fund Israel’s war in Gaza and take actions meant to ensure campus free speech.
