To the editor:

I purchased a new license for my boat this year and received the booklet with the 2025 boating laws. I didn't see a lot of changes, but one area that did concern me is the change in the age limits to operate a boat or personal water craft, PWC.

A person under 12 can operate a motor boat 75 horsepower or less with a operators permit if an accompanying operator is in the boat. If a person is over 12 all they need is the operator's permit. PWCs are a little more confusing. If I'm reading this correctly, if a person is over 12 years old they can operate a PWC if they have the operator's permit.

My point on this is that these kids have no training except taking an online course set up by the state. That's like saying you don't need to take any training to get a drivers license
