WOODVILLE, Fla. (WCTV) - A failed fish farm remains one of the first things many visitors to one of Leon County’s parks see while attending a baseball tournament, using the St. Marks Trail or shooting hoops.

The failed farm sits right outside the J. Lewis Hall Sr. Woodville Park and Recreation Complex in southern Leon County. It has remained dormant since 2022, and while local officials like Leon County Commissioner Christian Caban have heard complaints from residents, local government has no right to get involved.

“Unfortunately, with the Florida’s Right to Farm Act, it preempts local government from having the ability to step in and manage these kind of projects,” Caban said. “The State of Florida has jurisdiction, not our local government, not the local county commissioners.”
