PORTLAND, ORE. (KATU) — The U.S. Coast Guard's Cutter Eagle made a heavily anticipated return to the seawall of Waterfront Park for Portland's 118th Fleet Week.
Fleet Week is part of the Portland Rose Festival and military ships from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Royal Canadian Navy dock a number of military ships for the community to tour.
This year's fleet includes the USCG's historic Cutter Eagle, the training vessel for future officers of the Coast Guard that's making its first return to Portland since 1999.
The crew onboard made the monumental journey down the eastern seaboard before making their way to the west coast. The nearly century-old ship has several historical connections, unique elements, and it's part of what makes Fleet Week worth visiting.
