Two Atlantic County men were charged in a SIM swapping scheme that had multiple victims across the United States, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday.

Cory Kott, 35, of Mays Landing, was charged with identity theft, computer crimes, forgery, credit card crime, theft by deception and money laundering. Omar Lopez, 45, of Atlantic City, was charged with credit card crime and theft by deception. Additionally, Kott and Lopez were charged with conspiracy to commit credit card fraud and conspiracy to commit deception.

In 2023, the FBI Financial Crimes Task Force was notified of an ongoing nationwide fraud investigation in which victims reported being defrauded through a SIM, or subscriber identity module, swapping scheme.
