(TNND) — Republicans are trying to balance their reputation as the party of fiscal responsibility with President Donald Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," which is projected to add over $2.4 trillion to government deficits over 10 years.
Republican Sen. Rand Paul told CBS News last weekend that he supports the tax cuts in the massive bill but doesn’t want to raise the debt ceiling.
“The GOP will own the debt once they vote for this,” Paul said.
Trump himself formed the Department of Government Efficiency cost-cutting task force, helmed until recently by Elon Musk .
