TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) - Florida lawmakers once again extended the legislative session, this time pushing the end date to June 18 as they continue to hammer out details of the state’s next budget.
Friday was the already extended deadline for passing the budget, but the House and Senate are still negotiating. Despite the delay, legislative leaders like House Speaker Rep. Daniel Perez, (R), Miami, said they’re confident the work will be done in time for a final vote on June 16.
“I think the legislature accomplished their goal, which was to stop recurring spending and move forward in a fiscally conservative manner,” Perez said.
The House and Senate are getting closer to closing a $4 billion budget gap.
