The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and the Tennessee Highway Patrol are alerting Tennesseans about a scam involving fake text messages claiming to be from the Tennessee DMV.
These scam messages falsely claim people owe traffic fines and threaten suspension of vehicle registration or driving privileges. They may include links to fake websites resembling the official TDOSHS site.
In order to protect yourself from this scam, follow these steps, TDOSHS advises:
TDOSHS does not send text messages about overdue traffic fines, fees, payments, or license suspensions.
Do not click on any links or respond to unexpected texts. Scammers want you to react quickly.
Always use a verified phone number or website. Do not use the contact information in a suspicious message.
