AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A man died after police said he "collapsed" outside the Menchaca Road Branch Library Thursday morning, the Austin Police Department confirmed to KXAN in an email.
Around 9 a.m., APD officers responded to the library, which is located at 5500 Menchaca Road in south Austin, for a check welfare urgent call, police said.
KXAN reached out to the city of Austin for a statement, and a spokesperson said in part an "Austin Public Library employee observed an individual collapse in the driveway outside of the Menchaca Road Branch Library as the library was opening."
When officers arrived, they "found a man who was not breathing on the ground outside of the library," according to police.
"APL staff immediately called 9-1-1 and attempted to resuscitate the man, who was unresponsiv
