WASHINGTON (KCRG) - Senator Chuck Grassley is defending President Donald Trump’s new travel ban Thursday.
Trump said the ban is being implemented for national security reasons.
The order impacts 19 countries, primarily affecting people from Africa and the Middle East.
Trump said the list could change depending on if countries make improvements or if more threats from countries emerge.
The White House said the countries impacted lack proper vetting, fail to share identity and threat information, or exhibit high visa overstay rates.
Grassley echoed these concerns Thursday.
When asked how comfortable he felt about Trump’s travel ban, Grassley said he felt, “very comfortable because the president’s number one responsibility is the national security of the United States.”
