DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) - The Iowa Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) discussed consolidating counties in a meeting Wednesday, KCCI reports .
The task force’s first step is to collect feedback from Iowans.
After that, the task force will conduct research, and make a decision on if it wants to recommend the idea to the governor.
One DOGE task force member, Terry Lutz, said the plan could save Iowans money through property tax cuts.
He also expressed that the state’s county system at this moment is wasting important resources, and is “simply not affordable.”
Another task force member, Iowa State Association of Counties executive director, Andrea Woodard, said she wants her organization to help provide resources for the task force.
