BOISE -- The Idaho Transportation Department is warning people of scam texts going around claiming you can pay to get a REAL ID online.

ITD says people across the state have been receiving these scam texts that say you can pay online to get or expedite a REAL ID.

These messages are fake, no matter how official they may look.

ITD says the only way to get a REAL ID is by going to the DMV in person. You cannot receive a REAL ID by clicking a link in a text message.

If you receive one of these scam texts, do not click the link, do not provide personal or payment information and report the message to your mobile provider.

Most county DMV offices require appointments ahead of time. For more information about getting a REAL ID and other DMV services in Idaho,
