JACKSON, Tenn. (WMC) - A suspect has been captured in connection with Wednesday’s slaying of an East Memphis woman whose car was also taken.

The Jackson Police Department reports that Kerrien Dates, 23, is charged with first-degree murder and property theft out of Shelby County.

JPD says the victim’s stolen Chevrolet Camaro was tracked to Jackson, Tennessee, thanks to license plate readers.

He was taken into custody Wednesday without incident and is currently on an investigative hold at the Madison County Jail.
