HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has announced more than $6 million in grants to improve the dependability of the electric grid.

These improvements to the power grid are meant to keep the lights on during extreme weather and natural disasters.

“In Kentucky, we’ve been through too many severe weather events,” Governor Beshear said. “As we continue to rebuild, we’re also investing in our electric grids to make them more prepared during emergencies, so that fewer people lose power and our public power utilities are stronger.”

Owensboro Municipal Utilities (OMU) will receive $1,668,750 to relocate a high-voltage transmission tower and move it further inland due to erosion along the Ohio River, where it now sits.
