Houston-area residents lack faith in state officials' and electric companies' disaster preparedness, according to a presentation to Houston City Council members Thursday.
The presentation to the council’s resilience committee was delivered by Daniel Potter, director of the Houston Population Research Center at Rice University's Kinder Institute for Urban Research, and came less than a week after the start of hurricane season .
Potter highlighted data showing that less than one-fifth of residents surveyed trust the disaster preparedness of electric utility companies such as CenterPoint Energy, which serves much of the region. Similarly, less than one-third trust Texas officials to adequately prepare ahead of a storm.
