CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – If you live in West Virginia, you can expect your cell phone bill to increase by next month, the Public Service Commission of West Virginia said Thursday.

That agency reports that users’ bills will increase by 10.2 percent as of July 1.

It said it’s due to the wireless enhanced 911 fee (WE911 fee) increasing from $3.64 to $4.01.

“To this is also added an 8-cent wireless tower fee and a 29-cent public safety wireless fee, which means the final bill per customer per month will be $4.38,” the West Virginia PSC said.

It explained that the fee, which was put in place by the Legislature, is recalculated every two years and is in place “to improve the effectiveness and reliability of 911 services.”
