BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Kern County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating an early morning deputy-involved shooting in Kernville on Thursday.

Deputies responded to Big Blue Road and Piute Drive at 3:30 a.m. for a welfare check on 28-year-old Colin Kegley, according to Lori Meza, Public Information Officer with KCSO.

When units arrived on scene, a deputy-involved shooting occurred after attempts were made to reach him on his cellphone, according to KCSO. Kegley was transferred to the hospital after the shooting.

Kegley was arrested under suspicion of assault with a firearm on a peace officer, exhibiting a firearm in the presence of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a loaded firearm with the intent to commit a felony, resisting obstructing arrest and negligent
