FREEPORT (WREX) — S. Galena Ave. is reopening Thursday afternoon after a "critical incident" and hours-long police investigation.

Freeport Police announced in a statement Thursday morning that officers are investigating a "critical incident" in the 1700 block of S. Galena Ave.

13 WREX's Samantha Soto reports from the scene as of 4:15 p.m. that police are beginning to reopen S. Galena Ave., which had been shut down for hours since this investigation began. Police are also taking down police tape that had lined the area around a storage facility and a home next door.

City officials, in response to a request from 13 WREX, and police officers on scene were not immediately able to release more details due to the sensitivity of the information, but said Freeport Police Chief Chris Shenberger
