FARGO — Fargo’s 1% infrastructure sales tax is set to expire in 2028, and the city is considering asking voters to approve its continuation.

The sales tax helps fund projects related to streets, water infrastructure and flood mitigation and protection.

Without the revenue, the city would face several options to make up for the lost funding: reduce the scope of infrastructure work, increase utility fees, raise the cap on special assessments or ask the City Commission to bring the measure back to a public vote.

“We’re still trying to figure out when that might happen. So, there’s been some conversation that, potentially, in 2026, but again, those are the things that our City Commission is going to have to decide when they want our residents to take up that vote,” said Fargo City Engineer
