GRETNA, Va. (WDBJ) - The Gretna community was devastated this week after a Tuesday fire destroyed Jack’s Quick Snack , a beloved restaurant in the town for over 50 years. Now, the restaurant’s owner and her family are left to pick up the pieces.

“I really don’t know what the word would be to describe it. Devastation is not deep enough, is it? It’s just a heartbreaking situation for all of us,” said Shirley Shelton, owner of Jack’s Quick Snack.

Shirley Shelton and her late husband, Jack, opened Jack’s Quick Snack in 1972.

“He had a dream of his own that he wanted to do something better than work in a mill for the rest of his life. We had a big yard, and he decided we could put a small restaurant behind the house,” said Shelton.
