GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Students pursuing high school diplomas and work certifications and vocational training are restructuring their plans as the Trump administration and federal courts argue over shuttering the Job Corps.
At the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center in Grand Rapids Thursday, students were told that despite a federal judge's stay of the order to shut down the Job Corps, their programs are finished anyway.
"It sucks, because I dropped everything to come to this program," one student told News 8. "This was supposed to be my new start."
The Job Corps educates, trains and houses low-income people ages 16 to 24. The end of the programs are forcing those students to adapt or abandon their aspirations and find a new place to live with just a few days' notice.
