ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (KSNW) — Construction on the next stretch of Arkansas City’s Hike-Bike Trail is set to begin in mid-June, following a newly revised funding agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation that will save the city more than $341,000.

The City Commission formally approved the updated agreement during its June 3 meeting. The trail’s second phase will extend from Paris Park Pool to West Lincoln Avenue and on to the Cowley Sports Complex.

The revised agreement eliminates the cap on federal funding, with KDOT now covering 80% of all construction and engineering costs, while Arkansas City maintains its 20% share, along with its previous planning and utility expenses.
