ATLANTIC CITY — Upon hearing the Hebrew phrase "Hineni, or, 'we are here,'" applause came forth from the crowd gathered Thursday to celebrate the forthcoming Holocaust memorial at Roosevelt Place and the Boardwalk.

The phrase, spoken by Jane Stark, executive director of the Sam Azeez Museum of Woodbine Heritage of Stockton University, was followed by messages of remembrance and resilience from project partners in both the city's government and the local Jewish community.

"During a time of increased antisemitism, this groundbreaking serves as a promise to honor the past, educate for the future and ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust continue to resound in a world where the very real dangers of hatred and intolerance still exist," said Rabbi Jackie Menaker of Shirat
