CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The man who's accused of setting his own Charlotte house on fire is back in town after being extradited from Chicago.
The Cook County (Ill.) Sheriff's Office said that Michael Edward Barnette was in custody Thursday of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff. He was charged in connection to a home on Lombardy Circle exploding May 2, and arrested May 9 in Chicago on an out-of-state warrant as a fugitive from justice.
Court documents show that the 41-year-old is the owner of the Dilworth home. Barnette is accused of intentionally setting his own house on fire.
No one was home during the explosion, but one civilian and one firefighter sustained minor injuries, officials said. The explosion and fire caused roughly $445,000 in damages.
