CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Hundreds of environmental and conservancy groups were rallying to save the Ohio River Basin from toxic pollution, emphasizing the need for federal intervention to restore the vital waterway.
The basin, spanning over 200,000 square miles across 14 states, provides drinking water to millions.
More than 30 million people live in the Ohio River Basin and depend on it for drinking water, recreation or a drive for their local economy.
In response, several environmental organizations have united to draft a comprehensive restoration plan.
"This is a wake-up call for the United States to invest in one way or another in restoration and protection of the Ohio River watershed," said Rich Cogen, executive director of the Ohio River Foundation.
