MIAMI, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board released more information in regards to a helicopter crash in May that left a Miami resident dead.

On May 23, a reported morning helicopter crash in Roberts County left Travis Chester, 31, of Miami, dead.

According to the NTSB preliminary report, DPS responded to the scene at around 7:18 p.m. after receiving a report of a helicopter crash around seven and a half miles northwest of Miami, a quarter mile east of FM 2699.

The report said Chester, a student pilot, had planned a flight from Miami to Amarillo amidst foggy conditions. Chester was reported to have been using his cellphone before the crash.
