LAKE COUNTY — Starting this month, drivers hauling freight over the weight limits on specific roads are more likely to be caught and could face legal penalties for doing so.
That's because the Lake County Sheriff's Department is cracking down on overweight vehicles near the state line in the southwest part of the county. At the direction of sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr., county police will now target trucks that have been "damaging roadways and impacting driver safety," the department said in a news release Thursday.
The enforcement operation will concentrate on the following sections of roads, where the weight limit is 15 tons per vehicle:
197th Avenue from U.S. Highway 41 west to State Line Road
185th Avenue from U.S. 41 west to State Line Road
151st Avenue from U.S. 41
