NEWTON, Kan. (KSNW) — A major industrial project is underway in Harvey County, where GAF, North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, broke ground Thursday on a $400 million shingle production facility expected to bring more than 130 jobs to the Newton area.

The plant, located on a 200-acre site just outside Newton, will span approximately 400,000 square feet. It is scheduled to begin production in early 2027, with full capacity expected by mid-2029. Local and state officials say the project represents a significant investment in the regional economy and Kansas manufacturing.
