CLEVELAND (WJW) -- The FOX 8 I-Team has found out how often elected officials take money out of the pot of unclaimed funds -- money left behind in closed bank accounts, insurance policies and more.

We did some digging after an uproar since the state may give the Cleveland Browns unclaimed funds to help build a dome.

We keep hearing from you about how hard it can be collecting unclaimed funds in your name.

Yet, we've found state and local leaders have routinely tapped into that money for government needs.

This week, state Senate leaders proposed giving the Browns $600 million in unclaimed funds to put toward construction of a dome in Brook Park.
