HARTFORD, Conn. — Earlier this week, the Connecticut legislature passed a new $55.8 billion state budget, much to the approval of Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam.

On Thursday evening, Arulampalam praised the passage of the state budget. He lauded its potential impact on the city.

Arulampalam anticipates that state funding will help address the Hartford Board of Education’s budget gap and fully fund summer jobs for hundreds of young people in the city.

Included in the budget is $6.2 million more for Hartford schools. Alongside the additional $4.5 million in education funding that the city will contribute, the money will offer significant support to the Board of Education as it looks to close its gap.
