BENTON, La. -- Residents of South Bossier Parish can expect smoother travel ahead as two major bridge projects continue to make steady progress.

Parish Engineer Eric Hudson briefed the Bossier Parish Police Jury Wednesday on the status of the Caplis-Sligo Road and Smith Road bridge reconstructions.

Hudson said the Caplis-Sligo Road bridge, which closed July 4 of last year, is advancing on schedule. The deck panels have already been installed, and crews are preparing to pour concrete in the coming days. If all goes as planned, the bridge could reopen by the end of summer.

Meanwhile, construction on the Smith Road bridge is also underway. Hudson noted that the foundational piles have been successfully driven into the ground.
