DES MOINES, Iowa ( KCCI ) - The Iowa Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, task force says it’s considering reducing the number of counties in the state.
The idea was brought up during a meeting on Wednesday, June 4. The task force plans to continue research into consolidating the state’s 99 counties before deciding what to recommend to the governor.
“The first phase is really listening to Iowa,” said Emily Schmitt, chief administrative officer for Sukup Manufacturing and the task force chair.
The task force was created by Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, a Republican, back in February and has 15 members, ranging from business executives to local officials and education leaders. The group is expected to issue final recommendations to Reynolds and the Iowa Legislature this fall, and not
