The First Academy baseball coach Alan Kunkel said if it wasn’t for the play of outfielder/pitcher Blake Fields, the Royals would have had a difficult time winning the Class 1A state championship .

That’s why Fields is the Sentinel’s Orlando-area Baseball Player of the Year .

“He was the epitome of consistency this season and his intangibles were greater than just being a player,” Kunkel said. “He’s easy to like, easy to root for, does everything right on and off the field.

“He has a big personality and stayed super positive throughout the year. He had a big impact on maturing some of our young players. I can’t say enough about Blake.”
