SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating a shooting involving a 16-year-old boy in Riverton Wednesday night.
Josh Lee with the Riverton Police Department said the shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. A 16-year-old boy and his 35-year-old uncle got into a “verbal argument” at a home near South Homestead Lane.
Lee said the argument led the two to the front yard.
At some point, the 16-year-old allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot the 35-year-old three times before fleeing the scene.
The 35-year-old was then taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Riverton Police Department worked with the Herriman, Draper and South Jordan Police Departments to locate the 16-year-old. He was found in Herriman shortly after the shooting and is now in police custody.
