FREEPORT (WREX) — Two men are dead in what police are calling a potential murder-suicide in Freeport Thursday.

Freeport Police say there were called to a home in the 1700 block of S. Galena Ave. just after 7:30 a.m. Thursday with a report of two people being shot inside.

Officers went inside and found 51-year-old Chad Wirsing and 50-year-old Paul Laird dead of apparent gunshot wounds. Police found a gun close to where Laird's body was found and another gun tucked into the front of Laird's pants.

A preliminary investigation by the Stephenson County Coroner and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators shows Wirsing was hit multiple times by projectiles and Laird sustained one gunshot wound consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
