OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. —
A 20-year-old Jenison man is facing charges after allegedly firing a gun through the upstairs floor of a home, unintentionally killing a teen in the room below.
Westen Meulenberg, 20, was charged with discharging a firearm in a building causing death on Wednesday.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said Meulenberg fired more than half a dozen shots through the floor of an upstairs bedroom on May 9, with one shooting through the floor, hitting 19-year-old Connor Lotterman in the head and killing him.
An investigation on the scene showed that a group of people were at the home for a party when Meulenberg allegedly found a rifle and fired.
The incident happened around 11:11 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at a home in the 10700 block of 2nd Avenue in Tallmadge Township.
